My mom is descended from Charity Runyon and William Lusk. We are wondering if you've come across anything that would indicate there were Native American ties to either family. We know there are some somewhere in my mom's line but we're not sure where it begins. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dawn

Thank you, Dawn One of the most common of family stories in our Runyon lines is the one that some of our ancestors were American Indian, when in fact that family story is not based in fact. Case in point ...... I was always told that my great grandmother was a "full blooded Indian" and in fact my daughter even got a job ounce claiming preference points for her Indian background. After I began researching our family history, I discovered that in fact we were not descended from Indians. My grand mother was Monnie Hall. Monnie (Hall) Runyon 07/12/1900 - 03/30/1927 According to family stories, Monnie Hall's mother was a "full blooded" Cherokee, however, Fred Hoskins (hoskins@wsu.edu) the son of Monnie's sister Niota has been gathering information on his family for 35 years. He has documented the family history of Barbara Printha Whitt (Monnie's mother) for many generations on both sides, and there is no evidence of Indian blood from either side. A search of the Dawes Roll at National Archives Information Locator (NAIL) at www.nara.gov/nara/nail.html "Southwest Regional" also seems to disprove the "Cherokee Story" It has been documented that some Runyons were infarct members of the Cherokee Tribe, and that some Runyons married individuals with American Indian ties. Just use CAUTION, just because family stories passed down the generations say you were related to Indians, does not mean that that information is correct. Just look at the story about my grandmother!
