My great-uncle; a big man in all ways & always proud of his Runyan heritage:
RUNYAN
Joseph S. Runyan, 91, Cumru Township, Berks County; formerly of Milton, Northumberland County, died Nov. 27 in Mifflin Center, Cumru Township.
He was the husband of Helen (Benson) Runyan.
Born in Washingtonville, Montour County, he was a son of the late Fuller S. and Margaret L. (Deihl) Runyan.
Runyan had been employed for more than 34 years by American Home Foods, retiring as plant manager and vice president of their LaPorte, Ind., location in 1979. He was previously plant manager for Chef Boyardee, Milton.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Milton.
Runyan was a 1932 graduate of Milton High School.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Runyan was past president of the Milton Lions Club and a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and American Legion, both in Milton.
He was a charter member of the Milton Historical Society and a former director of the American Red Cross.
A former Little League baseball coach in Milton, Runyan played on the 1950 state champion Milton softball team.
Also surviving are a son, Joseph, Rockford, Ill., and a daughter, Linell (Runyan) McCormick, Cumru Township.
Other survivors include a sister, Alice (Runyan) Gold, McEwensville, Northumberland County.
There are also three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Church. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. The Shaw Funeral Home, Milton, is in charge of arrangements
