Joseph Runyon son of Isaac Runyon[/b]
Generation No. 1
1. JOSEPH5 RUNYON (ISAAC4, JOSEPH3 RUNYAN, THOMAS2, VINCENT1 RONGNION)1 was born Abt. 1781 in Montgomery County, Virginia2, and died 1853 in Tazewell County, Virginia2. He married NANCY JACOBS July 24, 1809 in Montgomery County, Virginia3, daughter of ROLEY JACOBS and MILLIE CARTER. She was born Abt. 1782, and died 1848 in Tazewell County, Virginia.
Marriage Notes for JOSEPH RUNYON and NANCY JACOBS:
Married in a double wedding on July 24, 1809. Joseph Runyon married Nancy Jacobs, and Dreny Evins Married Theodosia Jacobs, Nancy's sister. The marriage bond was signed by Richard Runyon, Joseph's brother, who had permition from Roley Jacobs, father of the brides, to secure the marriage license for the double wedding. Thomas Evins, Jr. was a witness.

Marriage: July 24, 1809, Montgomery County, Virginia3
Children of JOSEPH RUNYON and NANCY JACOBS are:
i. ELIZA R.6 RUNYON4, b. Abt. 18104.
Notes for ELIZA R. RUNYON:
In their book "Runyon Genealogy" printed 1955, Robert and Amos Runyon did not list Eliza Runyon as a child of Joseph Runyon and Nancy Jacobs. In 1962 Robert Runyon listed her as a daughter of Joseph and Nancy on page 208 of "Supplement to Runyon Genealogy" saying "Eliza R. Runyon was born about 1810. She was living in the household of Samuel Snider. Apparently she never married.".
Jean Leeper - jeanlee@harenet.net a researcher of this Runyon line does not list her as a child of Joseph and Nancy.
ii. ELIZABETH KINDRED RUNYON4,5, b. Abt. 18126; m. HARDIN KNUCKELS6, April 16, 1835, Tazewell County, Virginia6; b. Abt. 18107.

Notes for MILLA ANN RUNYON:
On pages 111 - 112 Of "Runyon Genealogy" by Robert & Amos Runyon (1955) they
state.....
"....Harvey Runyon and his wife Jane, lived in Tazewell County. Harvey may have been
a son of Joseph and Nancy (Jacobs) Runyon. (NOTE: That possibility abandoned in the
1962 Supplement). Two of Harvey's and Jane's daughters married in Tazewell County:
(aa) Milly Ann, maried Thomas Marrs November 6, 1865. (bb) Susan, married Samuel O.
Sayers, son of Bogden and Jane Sayers, January 30, 1873, in Tazewell County."
Jene Leeper's research indicates that the above statement is incorrect, and in fact Robert Runyon's 1962 Supplement does not list any of the above persons. Jene Leeper's research indicates that Milla {Milly) Runyon was a daughter of Joseph Runyon and Nancy Jacobs.
Jean Leeper sent me the following information on 11/01/1999 ................
" I assure you I am correct and the genealogy you quote is
incorrect. Yes I have seen the incorrect information you
quote.
Notes on Nancy Jacobs
Her father Roley Jacobs was in the Col Morgan's regt.
Virginia line Jany 1777 for three years . Roley's wife
was Millian the daughter of Henry Carter (CARTY from
will). I have a copy of his will from Montgomery
County, VA 18 Mar 1806. In it, it lists his wife
Frances . His oldest daughter Millian Jacobs wife of
Roland Jacobs, second daughter Sarah Harrison wife of
John Harrison, third daughter Nancy Charlton wife of
John Charlton, only son Henry Carty, fourth daughter
Elizabeth Gibson wife of William Gibson, and fifth
daughter Peggy Rentfro wife of Isaiah Rentfro.
You can see how granddaughter Milly Ann got her name.
Notes on Joseph Runyon
Some say, he lived in Wythe County, VA until 1813, when
they moved to Tazewell County, VA. He is on the 1814
tax rolls owning land on Mud Fork of Bluestone Creek,
thirteen miles NE of Tazewell Courthouse.
On 29 Dec 1852, his son-in-law Hardin Nuckes was
appointed administrator of the estate of Joseph Runion,
deceased plus administrator of the estate of John
Runion. The Court Order Book for the July term 1853,
had Hardin Nucles refusing to give security as an
administrator of the Runion estates. Will Book 3 p117
The court revoked his title of administrator and
appointed William R. Bane as the administrator. On 1
Mar 1853, Thomas Marrs and Milly Ann his wife, sell
their share of real and personal property of Joseph
Runion deceased to John D. Haven. This included 1
sorrel mare, 1 riffle gun, 5 head of hogs, 1 pair of
geese, 1 shovel plow, 1 pair of steels and 15 bushels of
corn. (The land was not sold but the money raised and
used for a note.) On 14 July 1859, Thomas Marrs and his
wife Millie Ann defaulted on their loan to John D.
Haven, which had been a note of 1 March 1853. The court
ordered the sale of Joseph Runion deceased's property on
the Mud Fork of the Bluestone in the County of Tazewell,
Virginia. The land sold the 30 March 1859 to the
highest bidder Mr. Israel Slade for $35.00. The land
record of 3 Sept 1953, the heirs of Joseph Runion,
deceased, Hardin Nuckles and Elizabeth his wife, Abraham
Smyth and Polly his wife, William Tabor and Charity his
wife, and James H. Tabor and Nancy his wife sell their
share of the property to William Slade
