Hello Ira,
I see you posted the email I sent you back in 2006 ref. Isaac Runyon, Jr's. daughter, Charity Runyon, but said to use caution when using the info, so I thought I'd send you a little additional info to tighten up the proof of the relationship.
1. In the death records for Russell County, Virginia is Isaac Hess who died 17 Jul 1917. Here is a transcription of the pertinent information from that record:
Hess, Isaac – 90y, b. 1827 RCV d. July 17, 1917, Honaker/New Garden; married; s/o Wm. Hess b. RCV & Charity Runyon b. ?
Isaac Hess was living in HH #1700 of the 1850 Russell Co. census, next door to his parents, who were living in HH #1699. His brother, Charles Hess, was living in HH #1698 and his sister, Elizabeth, who is my ancestor, was living with her husband, Martin Honaker, in HH #1701.
2. We know that Isaac Runyon's mother was named Charity Hageman. It would only make sense that Isaac, Jr. would name one of his daughters Charity.
3. William Hess & Charity Runyon named one of their sons Isaac after Charity's father and a daughter Charity, after both Charity Runyon & Charity Hageman
Note that they also named one of their sons Jacob, after William Hess' father, Jacob Hess.
To further show the close relationship of these families, I present the following. Charity "Runyon" Hess d. abt. 1852 in RCV. William Hess then married to Jane Presley, d/o James Presley & Bridget Hatfield. David Runyon, s/o Isaac Runyon, Jr. and Mary Smith was married to Elizabeth Presley, also a d/o James Presley & Bridget Hatfield. They named one of their daughters Bridget after Elizabeth's mother.

Hi I am Carl Hess and I have traced my family back to Valentine Hess. and I saw where you all have communicated with Michael Dye. I would like to get in touch with Michael so I can ask him about the Joshua Hess cemetery near Swords Creek, Virginia. I live in Rocky Gap, Va. Thanks
