I have been looking at your web site and have found a great deal of really interesting information. I have read a lot of web sites that say Isaac Runyan and Charity Hegeman went to Maryland to get married. What is the basis for this assertion? As far as I can tell no one has a marriage license for this couple.
Also, almost everyone, says that most of Isaac's children were born in Maryland. However, his son, Adam, claims that he was born in Maryland and then "when very young was brought to Rockbridge County, Virginia by his parents." If they moved to Virginia in 1778 or '79, Adam would have been in his mid- 20's.
What evidence exists that Isaac's other children were born in Maryland? This statement by Adam makes it sound like they moved to Virginia in the late 50's or early 60's.
Also, do you know of any other member of the Hegeman or Runyan family who moved to Maryland with Isaac and Charity. I can't find anybody who moved with them. Doesn't it seem strange to you that a 16 year old boy and a 14 year old girl would leave their parents and go alone to another state to get married. This was during the French and Indian War. Adrean Hegeman wasn't going to let his only child go off to another state to live with some snot nosed kid who wasn't even a member of the Dutch Reformed Church.
They ran off together didn't they? And they "forgot" to let their parents know about Adam because he came along a little too early. That's why Adam wasn't in Adraen's Will. They couldn't follow family tradition and name him after his or her parents because they were saving those names for children that they could write home about. So they named him Adam -- the first man, born without parents. They remembered to let the folks back home know about the next two. "Dear Dad, John has a little brother now and we named him Adron, after you."
Can you help me? I'm writing my genealogy and I'm going to follow Adam's account and have them move to Virginia in the late 50's unless you know of some documentation that keeps them in Maryland longer.
Thank you,
