Hello Everyone,
While trying to determine the father of John Runnion (born abt 1789 in WVA),
it occurred to me that he might be the same person as John Runyan; son of
William and Catherine (Custer) Runyan. With that said, does anyone know what
happened to the John Runyan who married Catherine Williams on 23 FEB 1808 in
Warren County, Ohio? Everything I come across makes me think that these men
are one and the same - my hunch is that Catherine Williams died between 1808
and 1812 as John Runnion and Elizabeth (born KY) had their first child abt
1813.
John Runnion and Elizabeth are listed on the 1850 IA census. According to
land records John Runnion died before December 4, 1853 - probably in Dallas
County, IA. Given that info I started to look for his wife Elizabeth. In
doing so I came across a listing for an Elizabeth Runnion age 65 in Valley
Springs, Van Buren, Arkansas. Does anyone know if Elizabeth moved to AR
after John's death?
1860 United States Federal Census > Arkansas > Van Buren > Valley
Name: Jno Runnion Age in 1860: 50 Birth Year: abt 1810 Birthplace: Ind

Household Members: Name Age
Jno Runnion 50
Elizabeth Runnion 65
Yes, I know the age of Jno Runnion isn't correct to be John Elliot Runnion,
but they are living next door to a family by the surname of Miller and John
and Elizabeth Runnion were living next to a family with the surname of
Miller on the 1850 census as well...coincidence???
Are there any other Miller and Runyan family connections aside from the fact
that Millers can be found in Warren County, OH during the same time frame
William and Catherine Runyan lived there?
On a better note I have figured out a branch on the Runyan family tree.
Name: John RUNNION
Birth: ABT. 1789 in Virginia
Marriage 1 Elizabeth UNKNOWN b: ABT. 1795 in Kentucky
Known Children per the Internet.
Solomon RUNYAN b: ABT. 1813 in Ohio
Franklin RUNYAN b: ABT. 1816 in Ohio
Elijah RUNYAN b: ABT. 1818 in Ohio
William RUNYAN b: 1823 in Ohio
Hanson RUNYAN b: ABT. 1824 in Ohio
Charlotte RUNYAN b: ABT. 1825 in Indiana
John Elliot RUNYAN b: JAN 1830 in Indiana
Betsey A. RUNYAN b: ABT. 1832 in Indiana
NOTE: According to the 1840 census John Runnion and wife Elizabeth had a
daughter who is not identified in the list of children above. On the 1850
Dallas, IA census, however, there is a "John HINER" age 22 and wife "Julian"
age 16 listed below the families of John and Elizabeth Runnion and John
Elliot (whom I agree with Connie is probably John Elliot Runyan). I believe
the "John" Hiner on the 1850 census is actually Andrew Jackson "Jack" Hiner
and his wife Julia Ann Runyan who were married on 21 Mar 1850 in Polk
County, Iowa. I don't think the census taker was particularly diligent as
Julia Ann is spelled "Julian" and he seems to have forgotten to write
Runnion after John Elliot.
Julia Ann (Runyan) Hiner consistently gave OH as her place of birth.
According to the 1900 census she was born in November of 1836. She married
Andrew Jackson Hiner on the 21 March 1850 when she was 16 years old. On the
1900 census she states she was married 18 years when she became a widow and
that she had seven children, four of whom were living in 1900.
Here is another family connection:
William Runyan (son of John & Elizabeth Runnion) born Sept 1823 in Warren
Co., OH and wife Nancy Jones had a son named Henry Thomas Runyan b: October
09, 1843 in Jasper Co., IA. Henry T. Runyan married Mary Charlotte Hiner.
William Runyan was a brother to Julia Ann (Runyan) Hiner making Henry T.
Runyan Julia's nephew. Mary Charlotte Hiner was Julia's niece via her
brother-in-law Jesse Hiner. (According to her obituary Mary Charlotte
(Hiner) Runyan met her husband, Henry Thomas Runyan, while staying at her
Uncle's residence is Des Moines.
(Note: Mary Charlotte Hiner was the daughter of Jesse Hiner, granddaughter
of Robert and Mahala (Calvert) Hiner. Both of Mary's parents died when she
was young. She can be found on the 1860 IA census living in the home of her
uncle Thomas Jefferson Hiner.)
Well, I am not sure where to go from here. I certainly would appreciate any
help and direction especially with the John Runyan and Catherine Williams
lead.
