CAUTION: NO SERIOUS RUNYON FAMILY RESEARCHER SHOULD CONSIDER THE BOOKS WRITTEN BY MARIE RUNYAN WRIGHT AS A RESOURCE! Marie Runyan Wright did considerable research on the Runyon Family Tree. She first published Tracking Barefoot Runyan which was about Isaac Barefoot Runyan, and afterwards she published Up the Runyon / Runion Runyan Tree. She compiled the information for the books from information she received from family members. As she began building her family tree she saw that all the pieces were not fitting and she could not trace the family back to Vincent Rongion, and she reached conclusions that were totally incorrect. In fact, some researchers have accused her of outright fabrication of facts on the Runyon Family. That section of her book relating to John Ronyon Sr., of Brock's Gap, Rockingham County, VA is totally incorrect and should be ignored. Also, many of the conclusions reached about Isaac Barefoot Runyan are highly suspect. All that being said, many (if not most) of the family relationships outlined in her books are correct, the problem is determining what parts of her works can be relied on. As a result, anything you see in the books written by Marie Runyan Wright must be viewed with caution and verified by more reliable sources.
