Hopefully someone here can help. My GGGGGrandfather was Simon Harris b: abt 1785 VA/NC & married Mary Taylor 8-11-1811 Floyd(Pike) Co.,KY. I have a cousin who says that his parents were Nicholas Harris & Elizabeth Runner that came from either Virginia/North Carolina area through Tazewell County. In my Harris tree I have Martha Harris who married Adam Runnian 9-3-1825 Floyd (Pike) Co., KY. Testifying was Richard Keesee & Simon Harris. I am thinking that Martha was Simons sister. Martha was born abt 1803. Simon was metioned in a few of marriages in the Floyd(Pike) County area along with Adron Runyon. The big question is was your Elizabeth Runner who married John G. Runyon my Elizabeth Runner who married Nicholas Harris first? John & Elizabeth were married abt 1786 Virginia. I cant find any proof yet on Simons parents only what my family has said. Everything fits. Hopefully someone has some info for me. Thanks - Todd -toddworks@charter.net

The name of John's wife has not as of this time been well documented. Robert and Amos Runyan in RUNYON GENEALOGY 1955 listed that the name of John's wife was unknown but there was a tradition that her name was Betsy Raemer (spelling uncertain). Many published family trees list that name for John's wife. The 1962 Supplement to RUNYON GENEALOGY by Robert Runyon states "John Runyan must have married in Montgomery County, Virginia, Where he was living, in or about 1786. The descendants of John Runyon say that his wife's name was Elizabeth." He further stated that the index for the records of Montgomery County, Virginia - Court Records 1776 - 1799 list the name of Elizabeth Runyon (spelled Runion) , but the actual documents have not been found. This suggests that John's Wife was named Elizabeth. According to Robert Runyon, census records indicate that Elizabeth was a few years older than John. The book EARLY ADVENTURES OF THE WESTERN WATERS, VOL II, by Mary Kegley page 397 discusses Adam Runner living in Draper's Valley as early as 1786, on 230 acres of land on Mack's Run. (Montgomery County Deed Book A, P 402) The children of Adam Runner were mentioned in a lawsuit in Wythe County Superior Court Chancery Pleas which included "Elizabeth who Married John Runyan". (Lawsuit Smith v. Fugate. Wythe County Superior Court Chancery Pleas, Bk 5, beginning P. 669, Montgomery county Marriages.). John was born in Maryland circa 1761 and died after 1840 at his son Adron's home in Pike County, Kentucky. Montgomery County Tax rolls list John and his father Isaac from 1782 - 1794, thereafter they moved to Wythe County for the years 1796 and 1797. John returned to Montgomery county by 1799. From 1800 - 1809 John was listed on tax rolls for Bluestone Creek, Virginia which became part of Tazewell County. John moved to Pond Creek, Floyd County, Kentucky circa 1820.
