Hello everyone, This is my first post ever to the board. It's great to meet you all!! I am trying to find out if anyone has done any research, extensive or other wise, into any relatives that served in "The War Between the States" Either Union or Confederate. If someone else has already tackled this project and came up emptyhanded then I am not going to dive head first into this. Any and all help you guys can give me will be very much appriciated!!

Are you saying that you want to document the history of the Runyon Family during the civil war?
That's going to be quite a project!

I am wanting to start with the John Jr. and Ester Rife line for right now. I know it will be a big ((possibly Huge)) undertaking but it sound like so much fun!!
From what I can see on line, there hasn't been much investigating into the CW aspect of our Runyon history. I do believe that Indiana and Ohio both have wonderful resources available for research into CW records.
I was thinking that I had read somewhere on line that some work had been done on the KY Runyon branch for CW ancestors but I haven't been able to find any connection between our Brocks Gap John and the KY line.
Thank you for any help Jenny

There are several ways of receiving WBTS records (only Yankees call in the CW, y'all). As a library science professional, I recommend a much over looked venue: Interlibrary Loan. I just received my ancestor, Adolphus D. Runyan's service record in this way. Adolphus (my GGGreat Grandfather) served in the 55th NC Infantry, Co. D, which originated in Cleveland Co. You will be paying for it anyway. Going through the NARA is SLOW. If you're intent on going this kind of route, I recommend the state libraries. Nice people, faster service. Best way is ILL through your local library. Every library charges different rates. If you want really fast (without going & doing it yourself), I recommend Broadfoot; $35.00 and two days two around...that is if your looking for our darlin' boys in gray. Same price, but a few days longer for the 'other side'. ;D
