Can anyone help me find a connection??? This is what I have:
My great, great grandmother Henrietta Anna/Annie Hiner/Hines was born abt 1859-1861. She married R. (Richard?) Oscar T. Embody in Des Moines, IA on August 23, 1877. (Anna would have been abt 17 years old.) The marriage was witnessed by Oscar's mother Mary Catherine Embody. Anna and Oscar had four children before his death in a train accident near Monteith, Gurthrie, IA in 1888. The children were Charles Samuel Embody, Edward "Beach" Embody, Gerald Martin "Jirl" Embody and Myrtle Mabel Embody Cady.
Anna/ Annie remarried in 1899 to Alexander A. Palmer in Scott County, Davenport, IA and listed on her marriage certificate as parents are Andrew J. Hiner and Julia Runyan.
The IGI lists a marriage for Andrew J. Hiner and Julia Runyan in Des Moines on the 21st March 1850. (If this is the same Julia and I believe it was, she would have been abt 13/14 years old when she married.) I have not been able to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate.
I cannot find the Hiner family on the 1850 or 1860 census. Part of my problem is in the fact that the surname of Hiner is sometimes listed as Hines.
I did find Julia Hiner age 35 on the 1870 Des Moines census with three of her children (but not with my gggrandmother). Her children are listed as Josephine/a age 15, Emma age 10 and Jackson age 8.
I found her again on the 1880 Des Moines, IA census as Julia Hiner age 44 born OH, father born VA mother born KY. She is working as a "Washer". Her daughter Josephine is age 22, her daughter Emma is age 18 and her son Jackson is age 16.
Emma Hiner married John W. Goldberry on April 1, 1881,
Josephine Hiner married William Atherton on Jan 27, 1883, and A.J. Hiner married Nellie Stuart on the 25th of August 1883 all in Des Moines, IA.
Next, Julia Hiner is listed on the 1895 IA census as being 61 years old and living in the 5th ward in Des Moines.
On the 1900 Des Moines, IA census, Julia is listed as Julia Hines born November 1836 age 63, a widow who was married 18 years. She had seven children four of whom are living in 1900. She was born in OH, her father was born in VA and her mother born in KY. She is living with her son-in-law, William Atherton born Feb 1858 age 42 married 16 years, works as a carpenter. Her daughter Josephine was born November 1860 age 39 married 16 years, no children. Julia Hines can read but cannot write.
I tried to find more info on Emma Hiner Golberry and Andrew Jackson Hiner to no avail. Josephine Hiner Atherton is listed alone on the 1910 census.
I know that there were Runyan's listed in Davenport, IA where Annie Hiner Embody married her second husband, Alexander Palmer, and in Guthrie County, IA where Anna and Oscar Embody lived prior to his death and where their fourth child Myrtle Mabel Embody was born. I have also come across the name of Atherton as having married into the Runyan line in the late 1700's but I have not been able to make a connection.
I know that Anna lived in Des Moines on Freemont Street before and after her marriage to Alexander but I have not been able to find her (or him) on the 1910 census. I do know that she was alive as I have a locket dated 1910 that she gave her grandaughter.
So, I have no idea who Julia A. (Runyan) Hiner's parents are. She was born November 1836 in OH with her father born in VA and her mother born KY. At some point they moved to IA and she lived in Des Moines most of her life...
And there you have everything I know so ANY and ALL help would be greatly appreciated!
