Hello! My father is George Alden Browning. He was the son of Compton Browning and LAURA BROOK RUNYON (b. 27Dec1891 in Justice, Mingo Co., WV; d. 15Nov1969 in Justice, Mingo Co., WV). The 1900 Federal Census shows a Brook Browning (born 1892 in WV)) as a daughter to James Runyon (born 1850 in VA) and Matilda (born 1858 in Virginia). There are three other children (Thomas, Charles and Elizabeth). I think Charles and Elizabeth may have been twins as both are shown as being born in 1896. Thomas was born in 1894. The Census record also indicates that James and Matilda had been married for 9 years and that both of the parents were born in Virginia (which makes since as VA and WV split in 1861). The Census also indicates that Matilda was the mother of 6 children but only 4 lwere living in 1900. Can anyone help me determine James Runyon's line and Matilda's maiden name. Thank you.

This is to terbrown1: I have just joined this website. I am from Logan co. wva and my grandfather was Thomas D. Runyon, son of James and Matilda Painter Runyon. He was born in 1894 and died in 1960 in Verner, wv. He married Virgie Browning and they had seven children. My mother who lives at Davin, Wva remembers going with my father to see "Aunt Brooke" in the hospital in Welch, Wva before they were married. Of course, Brooke would have been my great aunt. I went to school with the grandchildren of Charles Runyon, another brother, dad called him Uncle Charley. He was a twin to Elizabeth (Aunt Lizzie). Through marriages with the Runyons and Brownings there were 15 double-first cousins. Thomas Runyon married Virgie Browning and Lizzie (Elizabeth) Runyon married Owen Browning. They lived next door to each other also. Only one of the 15 is living--Mila Browning Blankenship. She lives in Ohio and would know a lot about the family. Another source in the Gilbert-Verner area is a man named Opal Perry. My mother says that he was raised near James and Matilda Runyon. He is elderly , but I think would remember people. Hope that you have a good day.
